Traditionally, Board Certified Behaviour Analysts practicing in Ontario are certified by the Behaviour Analyst Certification Board in the United States. More recently, the province of Ontario has moved to regulating Behaviour Analysts locally as members of a regulated health profession. This is exciting and welcome news as it protects vulnerable members of our community who access ABA services. This will allow families to be able to identify the registration status and competency of their ABA service provider and will help families ensure they are receiving ABA therapy services from Registered Behaviour Analysts and therefore prevent harm and protect the quality of services delivered. As of July 1st 2024, Behaviour Analysts in Ontario will be joining the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario. Click the link below for more information on this exciting news.

Joint attention is an important developmental skill. Our Clinical Director Hanan Kulmiye coauthored a series of studies investigating the teaching of component joint attention skills to 10 children with autism ranging in age from three to five years. The goal was to teach gaze shifting (looking at an item and back at a therapist) within a joint attention interaction. An additional goal was to expand some participants' community of reinforcers to include social reinforcers. All 10 children in the study improved their ability to shift their gaze to a therapist. Four participants demonstrated acquisition of social reinforcers.
